- Mar 05, 2018 -

AkzoNobel BV, a Dutch specialty chemical company, has signed an agreement with FiliGrade to apply the company's invisible watermark technology to packaging.

FiliGrade is the winner of the AkzoNobel 2017 Imagine Chemistry Global Innovation Challenge. This is a project the company has started with startups and scientists.

The technology provides an invisible watermark for packaging that can be read by a digital camera.

This watermark identifies the materials and details used by the manufacturer, which will solve the problem of waste plastic recycling classification.

AkzoNobel Specialty Chemicals will apply the technology to high-density polyethylene containers first, increasing its labeling and traceability.
